Internship
The INNOTISSUE programme places strong emphasis on hands-on experience, industrial collaboration, and research-based learning. To bridge the gap between academia and the biomedical sector, all students are expected to engage in at least one internship and complete a research-based master’s thesis under joint academic supervision.
🏢 Internships: Industrial & Clinical Exposure
Each student will benefit from a curated network of partner institutions and companies across Europe, offering internship placements in:
- Medical device companies
- Biomaterials manufacturers
- Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine labs
- Clinical and translational research centers
- Start-ups and innovation hubs
🌐 Internship opportunities are coordinated by the Internship & Industry Integration Committee, and students will receive assistance with placement matching, agreements, and mentoring.
Internships are designed to:
- Reinforce theoretical knowledge through real-world application
- Foster professional competencies (communication, teamwork, time management)
- Build networks within the biomedical innovation ecosystem
- Support thesis development and job readiness
📄 Professional Certificates
In addition to the internships, students will participate in at least two certified professional training modules, such as:
- Good Laboratory/Manufacturing Practice (GLP/GMP)
- Medical Device Regulation (MDR)
- Siemens Innovation ThinkTank
- ZEISS Microscopy Training
- Laboratory Animal Science and Ethics
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Biomedical Fields
These certificates will be hosted by different partner universities, ensuring that students benefit from the unique strengths of each institution.
📚 Master’s Thesis
During the final semester, each student will carry out a Master’s thesis (30 ECTS) based on an original research project in biomaterials or tissue engineering.
Key features:
- Joint supervision: At least one supervisor from YTU and one from the mobility destination (UIC or UPB)
- Project topics aligned with each university’s specialization and industry needs
- Option to conduct thesis in collaboration with external research centers or companies
- Regular monitoring through milestone submissions and academic evaluations
📝 Thesis guidelines, templates, and previous thesis examples will be provided through the online Student Portal.
