Summer School

The Summer Training Programme and the International Seminar Series constitute complementary academic components of the INNOTISSUE Master’s Programme.

These activities are designed to reinforce applied competence, interdisciplinary integration, and international academic engagement without increasing the formal curricular workload. Together, they strengthen the link between education, research, and innovation within the programme.

☀️ Annual Summer Training Programme

Each year, a mandatory one-week intensive Summer Training Programme is organised for all students.

The programme is structured around three alternative thematic training tracks. Students select one track in consultation with their academic advisors, based on their research focus and professional interests.

All tracks are delivered by qualified academic experts, research institutions, or industrial partners and include structured practical components.

🔬 Track 1 – Experimental Animal Research

This track focuses on experimental research involving laboratory animals, addressing ethical principles, regulatory frameworks, and experimental design.

Training is organised in accordance with national and international standards on animal research and includes supervised practical sessions.

🔬 Track 2 – Advanced Microscopy and Biomaterial Characterisation

This track provides intensive training in advanced microscopy and materials characterisation techniques relevant to biomaterials and tissue engineering research.

Participants gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art analytical platforms under the guidance of expert instructors from academic and industrial institutions.

🏭 Track 3 – Biomaterial Processing and Fabrication

This track focuses on biomaterial production, processing technologies, and fabrication methods, with particular emphasis on industrial-scale applications.

Training activities are delivered in collaboration with industrial partners specialising in:

  • Electrospinning technologies
  • Additive manufacturing and 3D printing
  • Bioprinting workflows
  • Natural and synthetic polymer processing
  • Medical-grade biomaterial production

The direct involvement of industrial partners strengthens practical knowledge transfer and fosters academic–industry collaboration.

🎓 Certification

Upon successful completion of the selected training track, students receive a participation or competency certificate, depending on the scope and assessment of the training.

🌐 International Online Seminar Series

In addition to the Summer Training Programme, INNOTISSUE organises a structured online seminar series throughout the academic year.

The seminar series features internationally recognised scholars, researchers, and industry experts in:

  • Biomaterials science
  • Tissue engineering
  • Regenerative medicine
  • Surface engineering
  • Biomedical alloys
  • Nanotechnology
  • Green chemistry and bio-interface engineering

Guest lecturers from leading universities and research institutions across Europe and beyond contribute to the series, exposing students to diverse research cultures, methodologies, and emerging scientific developments.

These seminars complement the core curriculum while maintaining flexibility within the academic workload.

🎯 Added Academic Value

The Summer Training Programme and the International Seminar Series:

  • Strengthen interdisciplinary competence
  • Support personalised academic pathways
  • Provide exposure to advanced research infrastructures
  • Enhance industry engagement
  • Foster international academic exchange
  • Reinforce application-oriented excellence

These complementary learning formats are implemented within the programme’s shared quality assurance framework and are continuously monitored through participant feedback and academic review.
