Why INNOTISSUE?
Healthcare systems worldwide are under increasing pressure due to ageing populations, chronic diseases, and rising healthcare costs. In response, biomaterials and tissue engineering are emerging as key enablers of next-generation therapies—from regenerative implants to advanced wound healing and controlled drug delivery systems.
However, a critical challenge persists:
Only ~14% of biomedical research is translated into clinical practice, often taking up to 17 years.
This “translation gap” is not only scientific—but also regulatory, industrial, and systemic.
Despite major advances in:
- biomaterials design
- biofabrication (3D bioprinting, microfluidics, electrospinning)
- cell–material interactions
many innovations fail to reach patients due to:
- Regulatory barriers (MDR, GMP, ISO standards)
- Lack of clinical integration
- Limited exposure to industrial scale-up
- Fragmented education across disciplines
Today’s biomedical sector needs a new profile:
“Whole-Person Professionals”
Experts who can:
- Design biomaterials with clinical constraints in mind
- Validate them through advanced characterization & preclinical logic
- Translate them into scalable, certifiable medical products
The Solution: A Fully Integrated European Programme
INNOTISSUE is designed as a direct educational response to this gap.
Built on the outcomes of an Erasmus Mundus Design Measures project, it brings together:
- Yıldız Technical University (Türkiye) – clinical relevance & biomaterials foundations
- UNSTPB (Romania) – advanced materials engineering & scale-up
- UIC (Spain) – clinical translation & biomedical applications
- 20+ associated partners (industry & academia)
👉 Result: A mobility-driven, transnational Master’s programme that integrates science, engineering, clinical insight, regulation and innovation into a single coherent learning pathway.
🔬 From Bench to Application: A New Educational Model
INNOTISSUE follows a “bench-to-application” approach, mirroring the real innovation lifecycle:
- Design
- Fabrication
- Validation/Characterization
- Translation
🧠 Regulatory-Aware & Industry-Ready Graduates
INNOTISSUE goes beyond classical academic training.
Students develop:
- Regulatory literacy (MDR, FDA, GMP)
- Clinical awareness (clinical observation & case-based learning)
- Industrial readiness (internships, scale-up, cost analysis)
👉 This ensures graduates are not only researchers, but innovation leaders capable of navigating the full product lifecycle
🌐 A Unique European Ecosystem
Unlike traditional programmes, INNOTISSUE combines:
- Türkiye → High-volume clinical expertise
- Romania → Industrial-scale material engineering
- Spain → EU-integrated clinical & academic systems
👉 This creates a complete innovation corridor across Europe.
🎯 Designed for Impact
INNOTISSUE is built with measurable outcomes aligned with EHEA (European Higher Education Area), ESG (Quality Assurance Standards) and EU priorities of sustainability, inclusion, digitalization.
🚀 Our Vision: Architects of Regeneration
INNOTISSUE trains a new generation of professionals:
“Architects of Regeneration”
Graduates who:
- connect science with clinical reality
- bridge academia and industry
- transform research into real healthcare solutions
